Chamaecyparis, also known as False-Cypress, is a genus of evergreen conifers native to temperate East Asia and parts of North America. These trees are often low maintenance and tolerate full sun to part shade, preferably in moist, well-drained soil.

Preferred soil conditions:

Moist, well drained organic soil types. Avoid planting in heavy clay type soils. These trees can withstand small amounts of sandy soils mixed into a loamy soil. Arborvitaes are somewhat drought tolerant but as with any tree watch them closely. Although they can withstand wet environments, for optimal growth keep them out

of areas that have standing water for lengths of time.

Mulch after planting and water as necessary for the first year and periods of drought thereafter.

Chamaecyparis thyoides is native to the Atlantic coast of North America, from southern Maine to Georgia and along the Gulf of America from Florida to Mississippi. Also called Atlantic White Cedar, that can grow quite large. It prefers moist, sandy to organic types of soil but is quite adaptable to domestic gardens. What is great is that this conifer can definitely be used in wetter areas!
